The name of Acton area literally means “oak farm”. Initially, an ancient village located here. Oak and elm trees were a staple of the zone but most of them were cleared. Later, Acton was absorbed into the city and became a part of the London Borough of Ealing. Acton was a major center of motor vehicles industry during the 20th century. However, it is a principally residential district today.
One of the main attractions is the Acton High Street. On some days, the street hosts the market where one can find fresh and local produce. A swimming pool can also be found on this street. The Acton Park has a mini golf, a tennis court, and also a playground. The Victorian buildings are another Acton W3 landmark. Some house public institutions such as the library and the town hall.
Kit Harington, the actor who played Jon Snow in the Game of Thrones TV series, was born in Acton W3. Hannah Reid, the lead singer of the indie pop London Grammar band, grew up in the area.
