Until the mid 19th century, Epsom, a spring line settlement, was known as a spa town. It was famous for its mineral waters and magnesium sulphate, also called Epsom salt, which derived from boiling down mineral waters. The antique water pump and multiple exhibits in the town’s museum are just a few of the remnants of that period.
Rock icon Jimmy Page, guitarist and founder of the famous British band Led Zeppelin, moved to Epsom in 1952 where he studied in Epsom County Pound Lane Primary School.
Andrew Russell Garfield, an american-british actor who made his career success starring in The Amazing Spider-Man movies as well as The Social Network – a movie about Facebook’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg, was born in Los Angeles but his parents moved to Epsom when he was three years old.
