Longlands borders Sidcup to the northwest and Eltham to the southeast. This area is in the borough of Bexley. Old records show that the name was spelled Long Lands in the past. It was part of the ancient hundred of Ruxley and it was included in the parish of Foots Cray and Sidcup. There is no railway or tube station serving this DA14 area. Longlands residents use the nearby stations at New Eltham and Sidcup. The 233 bus route allows residents to reach Eltham and Swanley via Sidcup. The 321 bus route goes to New Cross via Eltham. The Sidcup connection goes to Lewisham and Foots Cray. This bus runs 24 hours.
There is a small number of shops in this area of South East London. However, the shops in Longlands are certainly overshadowed by the ones located in the nearest larger towns such as Sidcup and New Eltham, for example. Longlands has Peugeot and Kia showrooms. The area gives its name to the Recreation Ground, main road, and primary school. St Mary and St Joseph’s Catholic School is another local educational facility. There’s also a small college in this area. The Sidcup fire station is located in Longlands. The river Wyncham Stream flows through this area on its way to meet the River Shuttle.
Two A roads run pass through this area. However, both of them begin some distance apart, come close together and then run parallel before moving apart again. Thus, the roads never meet. This particularity makes Longlands noticeable on maps. There is a concrete wall that separates the roads as they run side by side. The A20 is a dual carriageway that goes from New Cross to Swanley where it connects to the M20. The A211 is the other road. It is also called the Footscray Road or Main Road. ver meet.
