Dollis Hill is a beautiful place that’s mostly residential with green grocer, restaurant, and a number of convenience stores close to the underground station. The place also used to be farmland until the 18th century.
Located in this area is Gladstone Park, a lovely green space enjoyed by a lot of locals. Its core was established from Dollis Hill House’s parkland that was once a vast estate. The house that was constructed in 1825 continues to exist.
Dollis Hill is a familiar name to many people because of the underground station that was mentioned frequently in Mornington Crescent, a spoof panel game. Back then, people would often hear it in I’m Sorry I Haven’t a Clue, which is a well-known Radio 4 show.
Dollis Hill House, built in 1825, housed a number of famous guests such as Mark Twain, Randolph Churchill, and Joseph Chamberlain. The building was left in ruin by a fire in 1990. It was demolished in 2012.
Engineer Tommy Flowers and his team built the Colossus computer at the Post Office Research Station in Dollis Hill NW2. The computer was used by the Bletchley Park team to decode German transmissions during World War II.
