New Barnet is a North London district within the Barnet district, situated north of Oakleigh Park, east of Chipping Barnet and west of Cockfosters. The area is mostly suburban and in close proximity to the M1, M25 and A1 roads. East Barnet Road and Station Road (A110) links the area to East Barnet.
The commercial hub in the area is located on East Barnet Road and consists of public houses like The Lord Kitchener and facilities and shops such as Bodens Performing Arts, Tesco Express, and Fayers. There are also several primary and secondary schools and churches in New Barnet.
New Barnet EN4 developed starting with 1850 when a new station was built about a mile away from the center of High Barnet. The Railway Tavern, The Builders Arms, The Lord Kitchener, and The Railway Bell are some of the most famous pubs in the area.
John Sebastian Marlowe Ward was a writer and a priest. In 1930, he established a church in New Barnet. The building was a 13th-century barn taken down and re-erected at Park Road. He decorated the building with personal antiques.
Ward also built an open-air museum known as the Folk Park. It featured replicas of period buildings and original antiques. The park was one of the first of its kind and became a tourist attraction. Abbey Museum of Art and Archaeology in Australia houses what remains of the antiques collection.
The area is served by bus routes 84 (to St. Albans), 107 (to Edgware), 184 (to Turnpike Lane station), 307 (to Brimsdown), 326 (to Brent Cross), 383 (to Woodside Park), 384 (to Cockfosters) and 714 (to Luton). Popular spots near New Barnet include Trent Park, Barnet Museum, Hadley Green, and Beech Hill Lake.
