Cricklewood Pumping Station was a coal powered water supplier built in 1905. In the fifties, the station was modernized to run on electric power. In 1987, a burst pipe caused quite a serious flood and nearby residents were evacuated as a result. The pumping station is featured in A Night to Remember movie as the Titanic’s engine room.
Several movies including 1927 Robinson Crusoe and The King’s Highway were filmed at Cricklewood Studios in Cricklewood Neasden NW2. The area is also a popular setting for series such as Mike and Angelo.
Famous actor Peter O’Toole was one of the former notable residents of Cricklewood Neasden NW2 area. Lead singer of Thin Lizzy, Phil Lynott, lived here as well. Actress Tamsin Grieg spent her childhood years in the area.
The Grange Tavern, also known as The Old Spotted Dog, was a two centuries old building that was demolished in the nineties. The local McDonald’s used to be a pub called The Pantiles.
Cricklewood used to be a small countryside hamlet located in Edgware Road, a place that was initially called the Roman Road and later on Watling Street.
Found in this area is the Mapesbury Dell on Hoveden Road, a lovely and popular park and garden managed by local residents.
