Did you know that...
The London Borough of Croydon was and still is central in personality development of creative people. The thing is that this area hosted the BRIT School for Performing Arts and Technology, established in 1992. Among its famous alumni, we can find an outstanding list of singers, presenters, and actors, including Adele, late Amy Winehouse, Tom Holland and many others.
The are several theories that support the origin of the Croydon CR0 name but none of them is universally accepted and undeniably proved. The one that most language experts seem to agree with is that the name comes from an Anglo-Saxon term that roughly translates to “saffron valley”. Another theory states that Croydon CR0 name derives from a Brittonic word that means village near water. Some think that the name is the Anglo-Saxon spelling of “crog”, a Norse word that translates as crooked. This theory is supported by the oblique shape of the valley. It’s also possible that the origin is a birth name.
