Fortis Green is an area in the district of Haringey, in its outermost northwestern part. The area is also the name of the street that runs between East Finchley and Muswell Hill that makes up A504. North of Fortis Green is Colney Hatch, while to the south is Highgate and Muswell Hill and East Finchley are to the east and west, respectively.
William Bernhardt Tegetmejer, Oliver Erichson Janson, as well as Dave and Ray Davies of the English rock band The Kinks are all from Fortis Green. The village was also the tile of Dave’s 1999 solo album. Fairport Convention, a British folk-rock group, started off at Simon Nicol’s family home located in Fortis Green’s south side near the junction with Fortis Green Road and Tetherdown.
Norman Stanley Fletcher, the fictional character from the TV show Porridge, was discovered to be a Fortis Green resident in the episode entitled Men Without Women. Sergeant Norris was escorting him home from the police station towards Fortis Green Avenue.
The employment levels in the area are very high. More than half of the locals are qualified to degree level or higher.
