A wealthy elevated suburb located east of Golders Green and west of Highgate, Hampstead Garden Suburb is known for its literary, liberal, musical, intellectual, and artistic associations. It’s a beautiful example of 20th-century domestic architecture and town planning in northwest London.
Golders Green was formed as a Middle Age hamlet found in Hendon’s parish that was superseded in 1894 by Hendon Urban District and later on by Municipal Borough of Hendon in 1932. It was exterminated in 1965 but significantly grew in the early 20th century due to the establishment of a tube station close to Golders Green Hippodrome, a home to the BBC Concert Orchestra.
Golders Green has a huge Jewish population and is known for its biggest Jewish kosher hub in the UK; therefore, attracting tons of Jewish tourists. This area also has a busy shopping street and a broad range of housing.
Actor Hugh Laurie is one of the notable Golders Green Hampstead Garden Suburb NW11 residents. He gained worldwide fame for the main role in medical drama TV show House. Harry Styles is another famous resident. He is a member of the One Direction pop band. Boxer Anthony Joshua lives here as well.
Social reformer Henrietta Barnett founded the construction of the Golders Green Hampstead Garden Suburb NW11. She purchased the land from Eton College in 1906. The plan for the area was designed by Barry Parker and Raymond Unwin.
