Did you know that...
Loughton conceals an Iron Age structure that has been dated to 500 BC. Hidden in the Epping Forest, Loughton Camp was a fort used for defense.
Loughton is associated with arts such as music and drama but also with sports. One of the top three drama schools in Britain, East 15 Acting School, is found here. The Wake Arms was a popular concert hall that hosted shows from bands like Deep Purple, Uriah Heep, and Black Sabbath. Loughton has numerous facilities where residents can practice sports such as fencing, golf, tennis, and swimming.
Don’t miss High Beach in the heart of Epping Forest, a lovely quaint church offering you a tea hut with a cup of tea and a piece of cake, as well as its own character and friendly atmosphere.
Other highlights of Loughton include the Queen Elizabeth Hunting Lodge, Conault Waters, and Copped Hall. The last one is the Georgian Manor House, restored by a dedicated group of volunteers after a great fire 100 years ago. This utterly fascinating piece of history attracts visitors with the unique inside view of the construction of the building and very knowledgeable staff and at numerous open days.
