Former footballer and manager Les Allen was born in North East London. He played for Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, and Queens Park Rangers. Eva Hart, one of the survivors on the Titanic, was a former resident. Actor Dudley Moore also lived in the area.
Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park was built in 2012 for the Summer Olympics. Besides the Olympics, the Park hosted the London Grand Prix, the first edition of the Invictus Games, and music shows by Robbie Williams, Muse, Rolling Stones, Depeche Mode, and AC/DC.
Singer Elly Jackson, actress Emily Joyce, cricketer Eric Marsh, rugby player Matt Salter, jazz critic Dave Gelly, Nobel prize winner Martin Evans, actor Jude Law, and actor Joe Absolom are some of the most famous people who went to school in North East London.

Barking Abbey was founded in 666 AD and closed in 1539 and demolished soon after. Nowadays you can still see the Curfew Tower and an outline of some of the buildings. On the south side of the ruins now stands The Parish Church of St Margaret of Antioch where Captain James Cook was married on 21st December 1762.
