The Blind Beggar pub takes its name after the eponymous medieval ballad. The building dates to 1654. For many years it served as an inn and was transformed into a pub in 1894. The pub gained fame as it was the location of a gangster murder in 1966.
The V&A Museum of Childhood, previously known as Bethnal Green Museum, is a landmark of Bethnal Green E2. Another attraction is York Hall. It’s a leisure facility but also one of the most famous boxing venues in the United Kingdom.
Carry On movie actress Barbara Windsor was born in this area. Bethnal Green Town Hall’s wood-panelled office was used in popular movies such as Snatch, Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, and Velvet Goldmine. Jack the Ripper executed his acts at the west end of Whitechapel and Bethnal Green.
