Did you know that...
Charles Dickens lived for a while in Bloomsbury WC1 on Great Russell Street. The street carries the name of the family that transformed the area into a desirable living place in the 17th century. The first mention of Bloomsbury WC1 is in 1086 in the Domesday Book.
Poet William Butler Yeats, writer Virginia Wolf and sister Vanessa Bell are among the notable residents. Comedian Ricky Gervais owned one of the apartments in Russell Square. Charles Darwin also lived here.
A borough in London’s West End, Bloomsbury is known as a hip residential district and as the residence of many prestigious educational, cultural, and intellectual institutions. It is surrounded by St. Pancras and Regent’s Park to the north, Clerkenwell to the east, Covent Garden to the south, and Fitzrovia to the west.
