Camden, or Camden Town, is a borough of northwest London and is situated 4.1 km (2.5 miles) north of Charing Cross. It is a residential district since the 1790s and formerly part of the St. Pancras parish and Kentish Town manor.
The area is popular with shoppers for its open-air markets and various stores such as Stables Market, Camden Market, Camden Lock Village, Camden Lock Market, and Inverness Street Market.
Camden is also a center for live music in London, with well-known places that have launched the career of several big names in the music scene like Electric Balroom and Koko.
A considerable number of famous people were born and lived in Camden N1. There are 169 blue plaques that honor all the notable residents.
