Carpenders Park was originally a manor house and an estate. The manor housed the Highfields girls school that closed in 1960. Public housing construction started in 1930. The famous British ventriloquist Roger De Courcey lived in Carpenders Park. He is also an actor and a writer but most people remember him for The Nookie Bear Show. In 1976, he was in the TV talent competition New Faces. He won the grand final. Another well-known actor who lived in the area is Christopher Pulford. He is best remembered for the Fray Bentos ads. Pulford also had a minor role in Peak Practice TV drama.
St Meryl Primary School and Woodhall School are the main education facilities of this North London area. The nearest secondary school is in Bushey. St Meryl school borrows the name of the school’s builder’s wife. There is no religious connection to the name. Carpenders Park Christian Spiritualist Church and Carpenders Park Church are the two religious centers that serve this area that is in the Church of England Parish of All Saints’, Oxhey. The railway station was initially established in 1914 with the purpose of serving the nearby golf field. The first station closed in 1952 and the new one was built. Every 15 minutes a train passes in each direction. This WD19 station is connected to the Watford Junction and London Euston.
Carpenders Park is home to a yearly event hosted by Carpenders Park Horticultural Society. Attendees can take various horticulture-related classes but also cooking and crafts. There are also classes for children and fun classes like cooking for men. The Carpenders Park Cemetery was established in 1954. It is run by the London Borough of Brent. This cemetery is a lawn type that allows only ground bronze resin plaques. The Hartsbourne stream flows through it. The cemetery has a mature woodland and a small lake.
