The old name of Chingford E4 was Cingefort. It is believed that it meant King’s River or King’s Ford. One of the landmarks of the area, the Great Standing lodge, was built in 1543. Nowadays, the building is known as Queen Elizabeth’s Hunting Lodge and it’s a grade II listed building.
Chingford is a northeast London borough situated in the London district of Waltham Forest and is located 16 km (10 miles) northeast of Charing Cross. It borders Buckhurst Hill and Woodford Green to the east, the River Lea, King George V and William Girling reservoirs to the west, Walthamstow to the south, and Sewardstone to the north.
Footballer David Beckham lived in the area as a child and attended primary school here. Another professional footballer, Harry Kane, was born in Chingford E4. Guitarist Neil Hubbard, actor Leslie Phillips, and former Prime Minister Winston Churchill lived in the area.
