This area is home to several biggest institutions in North London including Hendon Police College, Public Health England’s Centre for Infections, Barnet and Southgate College, and Royal Air Force Museum.
Frigidaire, one of the biggest home appliances companies, had headquarters in 1923 in Colindale NW9. The company sold the first fridges in England. Colindale NW9 housed the headquarters of British game developer Argonaut Games.
Former notable pupils include Nicko McBrain, the drummer of Iron Maiden, Emma Bunton of Spice Girls, Yes guitarist Peter Banks, and Foreigner guitarist Rick Wills.
Colindale NW9 takes its name after the Colindale family who supposedly owned land in the area in the 16th century. The area developed at the end of the 19th century. Until then, only a few buildings such as a lodge and a farm were found here.
