Crouch End is a North London suburb roughly 5 miles from the central business district (CBD) and historic center of London in the western part of Haringey. The area lies in the middle of Wood Green and Muswell Hill to the north, Archway and Stroud Green to the south, Highgate to the west, and Harringay to the east. Situated 4.6 miles north of Crouch End is Charing Cross.
Prominent buildings in Crouch End include Hornsey Town Hall, Clock Tower, Crouch End Hippodrome, and Hornsey College of Art. The area also several parks such as Queen’s Wood, Highgate Wood, Finsbury Park, and Alexandra Park.
Crouch End N8 was known as Crowchende, Crouche Ende (1482), and Cruch End during the Middle Age. The area developed around the wooden cross that marked the intersection of four roads of local importance. The cross was nearby the Clock Tower.
Gillian Anderson known for playing Dana Scully in The X-Files is a former Crouch End N8 resident. DJ Sonique was born here. Actor Jimi Mistry is another famous resident. Peter Capaldi who played Doctor Who lived in the area as well.
