In 958, East Ham E6 was known as Hamme. The area is mentioned as Hame in the Domesday Book. The name is derived from the Old English word “hamm”. It means “land between rivers”. East Ham E6 is located between the rivers Thames, Roding, and Lea.
Idris Elba is one of the famous East Ham E6 residents. He is known for playing Heimdall in Thor and the Avengers movies, and also for being a DJ. Vera Lynn, the English singer who became popular during World War II, was born in East Ham E6.
At present, this area is known for several South Indian restaurants. However, it used to be a popular spot for turnips and potatoes. Plashet Hall, a farm in the 19th century, has obtained the name Potato Hall.
Compared to other England towns of its size, East Ham has become a fast-growing place during the 1890s partly because of the railways that reach the area. The railway station was opened in 1858, followed by the connection of the place’s station to District Line in 1902.
