Kingsbury is a name, which means “The King’s Manor”. Historically, this area was a rural parish of a somewhat modest 6.9 sq.m. in the county of Middlesex and Hundred of Gore. Kingsbury formerly included Queensbury.
Drummer Charlie Watts of the Rolling Stones was born in Kingsbury. He attended Kingsbury High School. Other notable alumni include singer George Michael, actress Shirley Eaton, Sugarbabes member Mutya Buena, journalist Ekow Eshun, and singer Julia Rogers.
Irish writer Oliver Goldsmith lived at Hyde Farm between 1771 and 1774. In just 10 years, starting in 1921, the population in the area increased by 796%. The current Veterans Club is built on the site of the old Kingsbury Manor.
Kingsbury’s development began slowly and has become built up not until after World War I. An aircraft trade was initiated during the war, and the road network was revamped in 1924 to cater to the British Empire Exhibition.In 1931, the inhabited dwellings in the civil parish increased from 140 to 3,937.
