Did you know that...
Knightsbridge SW1 name comes from the Anglo-Saxon Cnihtebricge. Knichtebrig, Cnichtebrugge, and Knyghtesbrugg are other variants of the original name that means “bridge of young men or knights”. The bridge was at the intersection of an old western road with the River Westbourne.
Knightsbridge SW1 appears in the 2017 movie The Foreigner as the place where a bomb is detonated. There is a mention to the area in Rolling Stones’ Play With Fire song. St Columba’s Church was used as a filming location for an episode of Absolutely Fabulous sitcom.
Some of London’s most expensive stores such as Harrods, Harvey Nichols, Prada, and Manolo Blahnik are found here. In 2007, a Qatari prince paid £100 million for a One Hyde Park apartment, the most expensive apartment in the world at that time.
Knightsbridge is a central London suburban and retail area situated on the south side of Hyde Park. To the east of Knightsbridge is Exhibition Road and to the west are Beauchamp Place, Brompton Road, and Sloane Street.
Knightsbridge got its name from the thoroughfare that traverse Hyde Park’s south side and Hyde Park Corner’s west side, extending over to the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea and the City of Westminster. The area is served by Sloane Square station and Knightsbridge station.
