Edmonton is a North London district in the London Borough of Enfield situated 13.5 km (8.4 miles) north-northeast of Charing Cross. The area extends from the south side of North Circular Road, bordering Tottenham, up to the northern edge of Ponders End. Other nearby towns are Winchmore Hill to the north, Chingford to the east, and Palmers Green to the west.
Edmonton Green is the primary shopping hub in Edmonton and comprises of a market, while the second biggest is a high street located in the Angel district, which has numerous retail stores. There are many gardens, parks, and open spaces in Edmonton such as Craig Park, Jubilee Park, Bury Lodge Gardens, and Montagu Road Recreation Ground.
The area is being served by Angel Road railway station, Silver Street railway station, and Edmonton Green railway station.
The northern part of Edmonton is known as ‘Lower Edmonton’ and the southern part is called ‘Upper Edmonton’. The area was home to many industries. Those included manufacturing of furniture, electrical components, and gas appliances.
According to the 2011 census, Lower Edmonton’s population included 21% of White British, 18% of Other White, 17% of African and 11% of Caribbean.
