Mill Hill is a district in the London Borough of Barnet, located approximately 14 km (9 miles) northwest of Charing Cross. It used to be part of the historic Middlesex county before becoming a section of Greater London in 1965. Mill Hill is comprised of numerous distinctive sections – Mill Hill Broadway, which is the area’s central hub; The Hale; Mill Hill East, and Mill Hill Village.

The first mention of the area comes from 1547 when Mill Hill was known as Myllehill. It translates to “hill with a windmill”. The eponymous mill dates back to the 14th century and it might have been on The Ridgeway in The Mill Field. The oldest known inhabited part of the district is Mill Hill Village that developed along a medieval route.

Notable people from the area include race car driver Graham Hill and his son Damon Hill; English traveler Celia Fiennes; actor Patrick Troughton who is known for playing the second Doctor Who; novelist and playwright Michael Frayn. Contestants of The X Factor also lived in Mill Hill in 2010.

Health campaigner Ann McPherson and basketball player Temi Fagbenle studied at the Copthall School. Mill Hill County High School notable alumni include actor Michael Offei, guitarist Matthew Ashman of the Adam and the Ants, and novelist Gillian Chan.

Inglis Barracks (a military installation) at Mill Hill East was home to the Middlesex Regiment (a line infantry regiment of the British Army) between 1905 and 1966.

Ethnically, 64% of the population of the area identify themselves as White. The largest minorities are Indian (7%), African (6%), and Asian (6%).

The area is served by two railway stations, namely Mill Hill East station, which is on the Thameslink route, and Mill Hill East station, which can be found on the Northern line. London Buses (route number 113, 114, 186, 305, N113, and more) travel from Mill Hill as well.
