Did you know that...
Newington Green is an open area situated in North London that links the boundary between Hackney and Islington. It is roughly bordered to the north by Matthias Road and Green Lanes, to the south by Ball’s Pond Road, to the west by Petherton Road, and to the east by Boleyn Road. Newington Green is included in the N1, N5 and N16 postcodes.
There are 2 Grade II listed buildings in Newington Green – the Unitarian Church to the north and the China Inland Mission’s former headquarter to the west. The former was originally built and financed by Edward Harrison, a goldsmith, in 1708, while the latter was founded in 1865 by James Hudson Taylor.
The area has several restaurants such as Primeur, Perilla, Lizzy’s On The Green, 01 Adana Restaurant, Feest at the Greenhouse N16, and Acoustic Brasserie. Newington Green hosts special concerts and holds weekly poetry readings at NGUC. It also participates in Open House London, a festival of architecture held annually.
