North Finchley is a district in the London Borough of Barnet, located 11 km (7 miles) northwest of Charing Cross. It lies on Tally Ho Corner, the intersection of the thoroughfares to Whetstone, Church End, East Finchley and Friern Barnet.

The first mention of North Finchley comes from 1462 when the area was called North End. The 1627 mill built by Thomas Rawson was one of the most important buildings. In 1722, the mill also functioned as an inn. In 1754, the mill had fully converted into the inn called Swan with Two Nicks.

Ballards Lane is named after the 14th-century Ballard family. The enclosure of the Finchley Common in the 19th century kick-started the urban development of the area.

John Parr, the first soldier who died in World War I lived in Lodge Lane. Actor David Jackson lived in the same house. Ex-Spice Girl Emma Bunton lived in a building on Woodside Park as a child. Comedian Spike Milligan lived on Holden Road.

Primarily a shopping and suburban district, North Finchley has numerous restaurants and supermarkets. Most of the houses in the area are 19th century, which ranges from charming Victorian bungalows to huge Victorian double-fronted properties. There are also Edwardian- and mansion-style residences, modern houses, luxury flats, and a small number of local authority estates in North Finchley.

Serving North Finchley are Woodside Park and West Finchley tube stations, both of which are located on the Northern line’s Barnet branch. London bus routes 460 and 13 as well as 125 (to Colindale) and 221 (to Edgware) serve the area.
