Peckham is a south London area within the London Borough of Southwark, situated 5.6 km (3.5 miles) southeast of Charing Cross. Formerly part of the town of Camberwell (now the Metropolitan Borough of Camberwell) and comprised of Nunhead, Dulwich and other London areas as well.
The area is one of the UK’s most ethnically diverse districts, comprising of a mixture of race – White, Asian, Black/African, Caribbean and other ethnic groups. The major shopping road is Rye Lane while Bellenden Road consists of small independent stores. Also nearby is the huge Peckham Rye Park.
Brockley, Walworth, New Cross, East Dulwich and Bermondsey are some of the districts close to Peckham. The nearest railway stations in the area are Nunhead railway station, Peckham Rye railway station and Queens Road Peckham railway station. London Central currently operates Peckham bus garage and is located in Blackpool Road.
