Queen’s Park is a west London district situated 6.3 km (3.9 miles) northwest of Charing Cross. Its northern portion is within the London Borough of Brent while its southern portion sits in the City of Westminster. The area is a great place for family living as it is located around a 12-hectare (30 acres) park.
Queens Park is named after the Queen’s Park opened in 1887. The park honors Queen Victoria who ruled for 63 years. The park and the surrounding streets feature the Victorian style. In 1879, the Royal Agriculture Society annual show was held on the site of the future park.
Queens Park was designed by park designer Alexander McKenzie. The park doesn’t have any straight paths. It has many sports area such as six tennis courts. The grade II listed bandstand is a landmark of the park.
Singer Lilly Allen, actress Sienna Miller, actor Cillian Murphy, actress Thandie Newton, boxer Michael Page, author Zadie Smith, and actor Daniel Craig are some of the most famous people who had ties with the area.
There are two local festivals held at Queen’s Park each year – the Queen’s Park Book Festival and Queen’s Park Day. The former is held in June and mixes local writing groups with writers from both the national and international scene, while the latter is held every September and showcases live music, numerous entertainment programs, shops and local stalls, and a funfair.
The area is served by Queen’s Park station and is in Travelcard Zone 2, running directly to Euston as well as central and south London by way of the Bakerloo line. The London Overground Brondesbury Park station is also close to the northeastern part of Queen’s Park.
