A huge municipality in east London, Romford is the London Borough of Havering’s administrative hub that lies 22.7 km (14.1 miles) northeast of Charing Cross. It was historically a market village in the Essex county and now one of the key metro districts classified in the London Plan.
Romford is governed by the Romford UK Parliament constituency and comprised of the Havering areas of Squirrel’s Heath, Mawneys, Havering Park, Brooklands, Romford Town and Pettits. The town forms part of the London European Parliament constituency and Havering and Redbridge London Assembly constituency.
The local football team of Romford is the Romford F.C., playing in the Isthmian League at present. The town is also home to the London Raiders ice hockey team as well as the Romford and Gidea Park Rugby Football Club. The club was founded in 1927 and became among the first in the UK to have an all-women’s rugby team in 2003.
