Shoreditch is a borough within the East End of London that is split between the districts of Tower Hamlets and Hackney. Historically, it is part of Middlesex county but became part of Greater London and the County of London for administrative purposes in 1965.
The area has many bars, pubs and nightclubs, while the north side of Brick Lane and the eastern part of Shoreditch High Street are mainly residential. The London Buses network serves Shoreditch, with many bus routes such as N8, N205, 26, 55, 67, 135 and 388 that run through the area.
Notable residents of Shoreditch include DJ and producer Andrew Weatherall, British landscape artist William James Blacklock, actor Luke Evans, comedian Noel Fielding, actor and comedian Russell Brand, and centrifugal pump inventor John Appold. Film and TV actress Barbara Windsor was born in the area.
