Shortlands is a southeast London district in the London Borough of Bromley and ancient county of Kent. The area is situated west of Bromley and east of Beckenham. Other nearby towns include Hayes, Eden Park, Bickley, Crystal Palace and Southend.
The area is served by Shortlands railway station, with trains running to London Blackfriars via Catford, London Victoria via Herne Hill, Sevenoaks via Swanley as well as to Orpington. There are dry cleaners, a snack shop and a café in the station. Transport for London (TfL) also serves the area, with bus routes 227, 354, 358 and 367.
Notable people associated with the area include classical composer John Veale, archaeologist Grahame Clark, actor Brian Murphy, architect Charles Paget Wade, children’s book author and illustrator Charles Keeping, and novelist Dinah Craik.
