Sutton is a huge municipality and the main city of the London Borough of Sutton. One of the London Plan’s thirteen metro centers, it is 16 km (10 miles) south southwest of Charing Cross and is situated on the North Downs’ lower slopes. Sutton is also the Outer London borough’s administrative headquarters.
The town’s primary station is Sutton railway station, with trains that run directly to several major central London stations such as London Bridge and London Victoria. There are also direct services to other places such as Wimbledon, Epsom, Dorking and West Croydon. It is served by both Southern and Thameslink.
Notable people associated with Sutton include The Rolling Stone’s co-founder Ian Stewart, actress Catherin Holman, rower and Olympic gold medalist James Cracknell OBE, race car driver James Hunt, and photographer Rebecca Litchfield. The town has a National League football club, Sutton United F.C.
