Stanmore is a Greater London mixed-use area within the London Borough of Harrow, centered 18 km (11 miles) northwest of Charing Cross. A historic village of Great Stanmore, the area consists of southern hills of the nameless range of slopes ascending to Stanmore Hill, one of London’s highest summits.
The area is near towns such as Harrow Weald, Borehamwood, Bushey, Elstree and Watford. Central London can be directly accessed via the London Underground transit network on the Jubilee line. 142, 340, 615, H12, N98 and other bus routes serve the area.
Notable residents of Stanmore include actor Roger Moore; radio and TV host Clive Anderson; rock musician Billy Idol; builder of the first railway in Stanmore and hotel millionaire Frederick Gordon; and football coach Dave Bassett.
