Did you know that...
Thamesmead is a southeast London district that connects that boundary between the London Borough of Bexley and the Royal Borough of Greenwich. It is situated 18 km (11 miles) east of Charing Cross, west of Erith and northeast of Woolwich. Thamesmead is primarily comprised of social dwellings constructed from the mid-1960s on previous wetland on the southern bank of the River Thames.
Neighboring towns of Thamesmead are Greenwich, Erith, Bexleyheath, Woolwich, Welling, Plumstead, Abbey Wood, Belvedere and Barking & Dagenham. There are 4 distinct areas that make up Thamesmead and they are Thamesmead North, Thamesmead South, Thamesmead Central and Thamesmead West.
Thameside Prison, Belmarsh Prison and Isis Prison all lie on the west side of the town, while the east corner is where the sewage processing works at Crossness is located. The covered Southern Outfall Sewer can be found on the southern border of Thamesmead.
