Tooting is a south London area that forms part of the London Borough of Wandsworth, with some parts within the London Borough of Merton. The area is situated 8 km (5 miles) south south-west of Charing Cross. Tooting is covered under the postcode zone SW17.

Tooting existed as a settlement since the pre-Saxon era. In the 11th century, Tooting SW17 was called Totinges. The name may derive from the proper name Tota or from “tout” that in this context means to look out. In the Norman era, the De Gravenel family owned it and it was known as Tooting Graveney.

Tooting is served by two London Underground stations – Tooting Broadway and Tooting Bec, both of which are on the Northern line. London Overground station that serves the area is Tooting station, with direct connection to St. Pancras, Luton and Farringdon (north bound) and Sutton via Wimbledon (south bound).
