West Drayton is a residential area within the London Borough of Hillingdon. The area used to be part of Middlesex’s Yiewsley and West Drayton Urban District up until 1965 when it was incorporated into Greater London. West Drayton is situated near Colne Valley Regional Park, about 4 km (2.5 miles) north of Heathrow Airport.
The area traditionally covers 1.3 square miles (3.4 square kilometers) and is presently the electoral district, drawn for unbiased representation by 3 council members, but West Drayton is much bigger and absorbs Sipson and Harmondsworth to the south as well as Yiewsley on the northern corner of the railway line.
West Drayton has 2 local amateur football clubs – Draytonians FC and Drayton Explorers. Notable people associated with the area include The Rolling Stones’ guitarist Ronnie Wood, blues singer Art Wood (Ronnie’s brother), Penguin Books’ publisher Sir Allen Lane, character actor Moore Marriott, actor Julian Rhind-Tutt, and adventurer William Paget.
